Caregiver’s Duty
Personal Care Assistance
What it includes: Help with daily personal hygiene routines, such as bathing, grooming, dressing, and toileting.
Why it’s important: Many elderly individuals need assistance with these tasks due to mobility challenges or health conditions. Providing dignity and comfort during these moments is essential for both the person receiving care and their family.
Companion Care
What it includes: Social interaction, conversation, and engagement in recreational activities to help prevent loneliness and depression. Caregivers may accompany clients on walks, play games, read books, or simply spend time chatting.
Why it’s important: Companionship helps improve mental health, reducing the risk of isolation, especially for elderly people living alone.
Medication Management
What it includes: Reminders to take medications on time, help with organizing medications, and monitoring for side effects or changes in health. This may also involve reporting any medication issues to the family or healthcare provider.
Why it’s important: Proper medication management is critical for elderly individuals to ensure they are taking their medications safely and consistently, which can help manage chronic conditions and improve overall health.
Mobility Assistance
What it includes: Assistance with walking, transferring from bed to chair, using assistive devices (e.g., walkers, canes), and moving safely around the home to prevent falls.
Why it’s important: Many elderly people have difficulty with balance and strength, so offering support with mobility helps reduce fall risks and encourages more independence.
Meal Preparation and Nutrition Support
What it includes: Preparing nutritious meals, assisting with feeding if needed, and helping clients maintain a balanced diet based on their medical needs.
Why it’s important: Good nutrition is key to maintaining health and energy levels, and many elderly people struggle with cooking due to physical limitations or lack of appetite.
Post-Surgery or Illness Recovery Support
What it includes: Assistance with recovery from surgery, illness, or injury, such as wound care, helping with physical therapy exercises, and monitoring health changes.
Why it’s important: After surgery or illness, many elderly people need extra help with recovery to ensure they heal properly and avoid setbacks.
Household Assistance
What it includes: Light housekeeping tasks such as cleaning, laundry, and organizing the home, ensuring it is safe and comfortable.
Why it’s important: A clean and organized home is not only more comfortable but also reduces the risk of accidents, like tripping over clutter.
